Today’s the day set aside during a week-long recognition of the tireless and often thankless jobs of administrative professionals in the workplace. Though this day has been celebrated for several decades and is recognized around the world, there is controversy over whether or not this day is just another excuse for a “Hallmark Holiday.” I’ve also read opinions that state the day shouldn’t single out administrative professionals on one day but rather these individuals should be appreciated and treated well all year long. I suppose the same could be said for any holiday and I don’t agree with that line of thinking one bit. Should we not celebrate someone’s birthday because we should appreciate them every day of the year?
While I believe in living daily by the Golden Rule, I still like the idea of setting aside a special time to focus recognition on someone or something that is deserving of the honor. The administrative professional in our office, Christina, definitely deserves special recognition. Though I believe she is appreciated for all she does day in and day out for our staff, whether it is mentoring a student worker in the office, rescheduling a meeting for the third time, or greeting clients in the office, today is her day.
Christina, here’s to you, today (and everyday)!
Be sure to thank an admin in your life for all they do for you!
