For many, including team UCM, today is the first work day of the new year. We had the opportunity the last several days to participate in holiday and year end rituals or not. Some of my favorite end-of-year memories for 2016 included spending time with all of my children and their significant others for the first time in five years, getting the news that a new grandchild is on the way, enjoying my youngest granddaughter watch a Disney movie in the theater, cuddling on my favorite chair with my two Shih tzus, and celebrating 30 years of marriage while cruising the Caribbean.
After experiencing so much excitement in such a compacted time frame, it would be easy to understand if today were met with dread or a case of “post-holiday blues.” And waking up to a dreary, rainy day could definitely have stacked the odds against a positive outlook. Instead of fretting, however, I chose a different way to start the day by seeing today as a gift and one of the great wonders of the world. With each breath, I choose to consider with awe, the extraordinary opportunities I have to make a difference today.
Before the end of the week, I plan to spend some time reviewing what I accomplished this past year and what I will be working towards in the future but for now, I will enjoy today’s gift.
Happy New Year!
